There’s actually a bit of a story behind how it came to be. After leaving teaching (which I talked about in my last blog), I had a feeling that creating resources might be the right next step. I’d already sold a few on a teaching site — nothing major, but enough to show me that I could make high-quality materials that educators actually wanted to use.

Then came what I thought was a big break: someone reached out to me on Instagram, saying they loved my work and wanted to pay me well to create content for an 11+ academy in London. Wow, I thought. I’d only just started properly promoting my resources, and suddenly, this amazing opportunity landed in my inbox.

But… it turned out to be too good to be true.

I created a lot of content based on an agreed price — thankfully, I didn’t hand it all over — but the alarm bells started to ring. Promises weren’t kept, and I gradually realised this wasn’t the opportunity I thought it was. It was a hard lesson, but a valuable one: not everyone has good intentions.

Still, I wasn’t going to let all that effort go to waste.

That’s when I stumbled into the world of home education. I kept seeing posts from parents saying things like, “Help! I don’t know what my child should be learning — or when, or how to teach it!” And that’s exactly where the idea for Step-by-Step: Mastering the Maths Curriculum from Home came from.
